  • In my own opinion, since there doesn't seem to be a hard and fast rule for wearing jewelry, if you are married, a wedding ring and engagement ring are always appropriate, day or evening. Earrings are also fine. Then, you should limit yourself to 2 good pieces of jewelry, i.e. a nice necklace and bracelet; a bracelet and brooch, etc. The old adage of "less is more" seems to hold true. You don't want your jewelry to distract from your appearance rather than enhance it.
  • Primarily it depends on your gender and size. A man should avoid wearing more than one distinctive piece of jewellery (wedding rings, signet rings, small earrings and watches don't count as "distinctive") whatever his size. Delicately built women can wear two or three pieces- if they are dainty in design you can get away with several bangles or even several necklaces, larger pieces should generally be worn alone, as a statement piece with conservative clothing. Women who are tall or with a larger build can get away with more- if you're over 5ft 7 you can wear as many necklaces earrings and bracelets as you like altogether, but concentrate on one type of piece- if you're wearing three necklaces, don't wear earrings (other than tiny studs) or bracelets. If you're wearing an armful of bangles, avoid going over the top with your earrings and necklaces and so on. Otherwise you'll just look like someone mistook you for a Christmas tree. If you're wearing a lots of jewellry, particularly if its large, you need to tone down the rest of your outfit to avoid looking swamped- keep it simple and avoid billowing, highly decorated, patterned or tassled items.
  • Depends on your style --- some people can get away with scads of bracelets, multiple necklaces, earrings, etc., and carry it off; others can do a wedding ring and pearls without looking overdone. It's probably best to just experiment. Generally speaking, though, less is more.
  • The only actual rule I've ever heard is that you shouldn't wear a necklace and a brooch at the same time.
  • i think that woman should be kept to a necklace and eaarings, if going for a sophisticated look, but if not to stay with braclets and earrings, i think neclaces are for a more smart look. rings should be kept to just one or two impotrant rings ie. wedding ring and engagment rings. =]
  • In which culture? Some cultures wear considerably more jewelry than others (consider Indian Hindus). It depends upon the occasion, as well. A Hindu bride will have bindis across her forehead, earrings, probably a nosering, several necklaces, many bangles, anklets, toe-rings, etc. A western bride will not be wearing so much.
  • i work with a woman who wears almost twice as many rings as she has fingers (18). Thumb rings, several on one finger between 1st and 2nd joints. bracelets time dozens, necklaces (heavy chains times a lot.) She looks like Mr. T. Although he is a little better looking. I guess the point I am trying to make is, if the jewelry wear is 1/4 th your body weight then it is too much.
