You're reading What is most likely at the very center of our galaxy?

Cool Answer. Wow, to wander aimlessly in space.... might be kind of cool to evolve there.

Wow. Where can I find articles discussing this?
by Max Power on May 10th, 2006
Yeah, I've heard that being discussed on one of those Discovery type shows as well.

science geek I don't think anything is gonna evolve on a star that got that close to a black hole unfortunately, everything was sucked off of it, and it's also a star, not a planet :)
by Occams Electric Razor on September 23rd, 2008
Really, the entirety of everything was sucked from around the star, and the star itself did not get taken in? Tell me, binaryj, what evidence do you have that this is so? Do you have images of a resolution to be sure? Do you understand how gravitation effects objects at the scale of solar systems? Additionally, how do you, personally, know what will evolve, where it will evolve, how it will evolve, etc? One more point, I did not use the word planet, you did.

I am glad you can see 27,000 light years into the future. INtergalactic space isn't empty! There is no more certainty on whether or not we orbit a black hole than there is on the 2012 doomsday fantasy! Did you know it takes like a year to CG enhance a photo from hubble, add some color here an effect there. We cannot even see pluto clearly, but we can see a black hole, everyone may agree, but we know intelligence has never been a dominant trait!

so you have seen it too? what is the mass of the center of our galaxy?
by archimedes on November 23rd, 2009
going anon.. i imagine you to be quirkie
by archimedes on November 23rd, 2009
It takes 27,000 years for the light from the center of the galaxy so the light we are seeing is just that 27,000 years old, time=distance@ you need some edumukatun
by archimedes on November 23rd, 2009
Archimedes, I don't go anon. There is a lot of evidence for a black hole in the center of many galaxies, including our own. There is exactly one piece of evidence for the 2012 doomsday. Do you know what it is?
by Quirkie on November 23rd, 2009
I undersand there is evidence there are black holes, but there once was evidence the Earth was flat and the center of the universe. The one ultimate truth about science is it all becomes nothing more than a chapter in a history book. There is ladder of many fragile rungs of theory supporting he who paints that sign. And anon we cannot zoom in on anything 27,000 light years away for that would require an ability to exceed 299,278,452 meters per second which is both a time and a distance. Even our own beautiful moon is merely an image of 1.28 seconds ago! For you, an elemnetary lesson in space, it requires the coordinates of time and space, no wonder you cannot meet ant of your friends you never kow when or where together!
