No one did -- he didn't die. Sam Westing was the same man as Barney Northrup, Sandy Southers, and Julian R Eastman. He faked his own death, so in effect, he "murdered" himself -- or at least his popular persona. Hope this helps!

Sam Westing was not murdered. HE was the murderer.In which I mean he killed his own identities and in all he had four identities. he was a lover of games and he wanted to play one final game with his family and friends has a whole.First he killed immigrant Windy Windkloppel. Next millionaire Sam Westing (himself). And then doorman Sandy McSouthers and lastly, his final identity, Julian R. Eastman.

No one because he has 4 identities such as Barney NORTHrup, Sandy SOUTHers, and Julian R EASTman. Don't you get it McSouthers(south in the name) Eastman(east in the name) Northrups(north in the name) and for Sam WESTing. Hope this can help with anything

i had to read this in 5th grade it sems that he died chocking water that Crow(ex-wife)put poisen on it so he died

well i read the book with my class and I got to be J.J. Ford and I found out that it was a fake body then when chapter 24 came up Wrong All Wrong and when Turtle found out that Sam WESTin Sndy McSOUTHers Barney NORTrup and Julian R. EASTmanand then when the westing house went down but at the end of the book Sam Westing Sandy Mc Southers Barney Northrup and Julian R. Eastman died and very little of Turtle to!!!!!:(

ok this is gonna sound weerd butI figured it out and i didnt even read the hole book i got 2 the part where they said some of the clues and when i put them all 2gether, i reallized that it was the song O' Beatiful it said sam westing was patriotic so i realized he must have killed himself, bcuz thats where the clues pointed of course, i thot he actually killed himself, but aftr reading other ppls ansers, i found out he just pretended
