Metamucil, or a cheap generic, every day works wonders. An apple or two does the same.
-
Any psyllium based product will work. An apple may not be effective if you don't have your gall bladder, and apple sauce can be constipating.
-
Raisins or Prunes
-
I dont know about you but drinking coffee is like turbe lax for me.
-
I have never tried this and hope I never have to! A friend tells me that the Indian Gunda pickle is amazingly fast and effective at relieving constipation.

A proper diet, well balanced with green leafy vegetables is important. By adding omega rich fatty acids to your diet, (see some answers submitted by the Sievers), it will help with this. Or take a couple "swigs" of olive oil the night before. Magnesium or Vitamin C will help relieve it...when an overabundance is taken, the body naturally eliminates it.

Taking a tablespoon of mineral oil works wonders, although the stuff tastes absolutely disgusting. Coffee, as others have pointed out, seems to clean out your system, but I really wouldn't recommend medicating yourself with caffeine just because you're constipated. I would recommend adding fiber to your diet. Eat Bran Flakes cereal (Kellogg brand?) in the morning (it tastes better if you add fruit!). Or you can buy unprocessed bran and just sprinkle small amounts of it over your food at each meal. The stuff has absolutely no taste, but if you mix it into things like mashed potatoes you can up your fiber intake lots without really noticing.
-
How about drinkin' lotsa water?! =)
-
Eat lots of beans, cheese, bacon, chili, broccoli, no fiber, (fiber makes you shit like crazy) and try laxatives! ^_^ See if that will help, dear.
-
I would just suggest trying to include more fruits in your diet. Most people who have trouble with constipation, are having that trouble because of a lack of fiber, or fruit and vegetables in their diet.
-
i get constipated alot put i jsut try to get it out i take long pooping anyway so i dont care how long im on the shitter for

i am recently sober again and am at my wits end,,,does anyone know about stopping drinking stops more than drinking???

Oddly enough, latest practice believed by the medical fraternity is that the old-time remedy of a little Epsom Salts in water is the best. Although there are lots of alternatives available,it seems these also can create other intestinal issues, particularly with long term use,and are now considered not as good as the tried-and -true method using Epsom Salts. Other things which must be considered are the reasons leading to this complaint..whether caused by medications or diet. Dietary complications are extremely common ,yet easily remedied by inclusion of more fibre in one's diet. Simple things like a breakfast cereal including Bran are quick to alleviate a lot of symptoms,as are inclusion of fresh fruit and high fibre food.
-
Lots of fiber, e.g. fruits, grains, and veggies with lots of water.
-
EXTREME LAXATIVES!!!
-
1) Fiber- You need 24-30g of it a day, it can be obtained from whole grains such as brown rice, whole wheat bread and pasta, fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes. 2) Laxatives 3) Enemas
-
Miralax every day and an enema every now and then.
-
Massage the colon clockwise through the stomache area. Works great and don't have to take any pills for it.
-
fiber, lots of fruit reduces likelihood of constipation. exercise helps reduce probability, too. sometimes i use many laxatives. sometimes rich foods will cause quick and complete movements...
-
Best way to relieve constipation ...go to the store and get a personal size watermelon, dig in ...your problem should clear up shortly. :)

Eat a box of Grape Nuts! ;)
-
Taking fiber daily for the rest of your life will relieve it and give you better health also.
-
oily salad. Gives me the runs every time.
-
Spicy Indian food... YUM!
-
They sy laxatives and such are habit forming and addictive, some other stuff out there can actually make your symptom worse or do harm to your body. I got a bacterial infection in my lower intestines once and upped my fiber and went to GNC and got a body detox week long program and it worked wonders! I wan't necessarily trying to fix constipation but when you detox your colon and other organs and up your fiber intake (as well as eat a lot of veggies, fruits and drink plenty of water) your motor will be running in overdrive
-
prune juice lmao
-
Drink lots of water, all throughout the day.
-
Eat boiled okra; not bad with butter and lemon juice, and does a great job. It's easy to grow yourself. If you can't deal with okra, try bran cereal.
-
try prunes lol

Cascara sagrada, flaxseed, papaya, psyllium seed and senna are all great herbal treatments for constipation. Bulking up your diet won't hurt either. Whole grains, fruits and vegetables help add bulk.
-
For me...eat a whole bunch of cherries. Poop. Repeat as needed. :)
-
Prune Juice
-
an at home enema with a nose sucker or turkey baster.
-
Trifala, cascara sagrada, eating oil in it's natural state like in nuts or seeds is excellent, eat plenty of fiber, take a walk, dandelion root. Make a home remedy: Buy the psyllium seeds in a health food store and crush them yourself. Grind two parts psyllium with one part flax and one part oat bran (also available in health food stores) for a super-high-fiber concoction. Mix the ingredients up with water, and have it as a little mash every night around 9 o'clock and you'll always feel wonderful:-)
-
Half cup cabbage juice taken twice-daily cures constipation.Dates along with milk also relieve constipation.Carrot juice mixed with spinach juice gives immediate relief from constipation.

You could be like the constipated mathamatition(sp?)... He worked it out with a pencil...

-
lots and lots of fibre, but if u really wanna go to the loo....try having real black coffee...a bit cup.. u will be running to the loo ......and believe me...it does work :))

You can try a sepository or an enema if you are seriously blocked up and laxatives aren't working. These are last resort though since they're very unpleasant. If it's just a recurring problem where you can still go but with difficulty than I would suggest buying high fibre cereal and eating it before bed. The fibre works it's way through your system while you sleep. You do have to make sure that you don't eat too much fibre so check the serving size on the box. All bran buds has 48% of your daily fibre in 1/3cup. If you eat it like normal cereal and take 1 cup than you're eating 144% of your fibre for the day and this is why people have bad experiences with gas and bloating.
-
Food allergies can cause either constipation or the trots or alternate between the two. So if it is chronic, I'd first make sure you aren't eating something you are allergic to. Basically, they cause the same symptoms as IBS, and probably more than a few cases are misdiagnosed. Beyond that, drink plenty of water (roughly half a gallon a day or eight glasses). Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Eat plenty of whole grain. Don't eat too much cheese (it is like plaster of paris in your gut). And if you still have a bad day, eat prunes, plums or drink prune juice. Exercise helps to jog it down where you can get rid of it.

If good old fashioned fiber doesn't do the trick go to http://www.grannymed.com/meds/constipation.aspx for a long list of things to try

prunes
-
senna leaves. You can buy a tea called smooth move at any health food store.
-
My coffee or prune juice.
-
Dates along with milk helps to relieve constipation.

an enema is your best solution. warm water that is comfortable to your elbow. you know, the elbow test. you dont want it too hot...arrrgh. pain up the arse if you know what I mean. shoot the water up with a rubber ball syringe... and just let it sit in there for a while and allow the water to soften the material...then sit down and push like you are having a baby. it will pop out into the toilet. there could be some blood from ripping through your dry anus. not to worry it will heal quickly. you might need a big knife to cut up the evidence so it will go down and not block up the system. its your mess, you are the one to clean it up. or you can just eat a meal, and the new food will cause the old food to move on through...its important to follow up on the feelings that the train is coming through the tunnel. if you ignore them, then that is why you are getting constipated. or you can swallow a laxitive...i like swiss kriss...it is organic. one pill works and it will help blow it out your arse. or you can drink a big bottle of fresh carrot juice. Naked Juice makes great carrot juice. It is 99 percent pulp and it works wonders. The pulp slides way down to the exit and coats the culprit with carrot colored slime. you still have to sit and push.
-
Go to any health food store there is a tea that has Senna leaves in it. It is usually called Smooth Move. It does work great........
