Help answer this question below.
If your are using the Comp 07C124 woofers, they are rated to 150 watts RMS each, so if you're wiring them up monophonically, you should probably stick to a 300w (Mono) amp.
If you are using the Comp VR or Comp VT subwoofers, they can accept up to 400 watts RMS. In that case, you should probably not use an amp rated for more than 800w (Mono).
Please note that sound pressure levels are logarithmic, so it takes 10 times as much electrical power to produce a perceived doubling of sound volume.
In short, an 800W amp won't sound that different from a 300W amp.
Good luck.

You're reading I have two 12" Kicker Comp subwoofers. I need an amp for them; What is the highest wattage I could use to power my 12"s? (I was told 300.1 watts at the minimum, but not a maximum.)

Thanks, very helpful.

Also, make sure you're always talking about RMS ratings (which is a standardized way of measuring power). "Peak" power can mean just about anything the manufacturer wants it to mean.

Quick question, by 'monophonically' do you mean hooking up two subs to one amp?
by Anonymous on January 1st, 2008
K-schuss-- Yes, I mean hooking two subs up to an amplifier in a specific (and common) way. When hooking up non-subwoofer speakers, generally you have 2 or 4 channels (left and right or LF, RF, LR, RR).
.
You *could* do this with subwoofers. But humans generally can't spatially orient deep bass tones. So amps for subwoofers are generally 'bridged' to combine the Left and Right channel signals into a single monophonic signal. This allows an amp of X watts per channel to power the subwoofer with 2X watts.
