THEY CAN BE BUT MOST LIKELY ITS THE WRIST PIN THAT HOLDS THE PISTON TO THE ROD I JUST CHANGED MY ENGINE OUT DUE TO THE SAME THING TAKE THE CAP OFF OF THE ROD AND LOOK AT THE BEARING AND SEE IF THERE IS A LINE IN IT IF SO ITS A SPUN BEARING THATS YOUR PROBLEM BUT YOU HAVE TO GET THE CRANK POLISHED AND RESIZED SO BASICALLY AN ENGINE REBUILD PLEASE RATE THIS ANSWER

You're reading I have a 1986 gmc with a 350 that started to knock, i think it is the rod bearings, when you pull the pan, will piston rods be loose or anything like that?
