  • none... the 5th amendment is amazing.
  • As far as I know, the length of a contempt sentence is entirely at the discretion of the judge who issues it.
  • As long as the judge wants to hold you. Unless you can plead the fifth by being called to testify you have no choice, but to do so. And if you lie and say you know nothing you add perjury to your contempt charge.
  • First off, the other posts are incorrect about the 5th Amendment. The Fifth Amendment only protects you against self incrimination. Therefore, if the prosecuter gives you immunity, you cannot refuse to testify. Furthermore, even if something is incriminating, you still have to tell the judge who will decide if it is incriminating or not. Thus, you can't really hide behind the 5th like they do in the movies. How long can you be held? Generally, you are held until you testify or the judge decided to let you go. You can be held indefintely.
