I own a 07 Chevy Cobalt and the oil filter is on top of the engine, on the right hand side. On my car, you have to take the plastic piece off the top of the engine, which pulls right off after you remove the oil cap. Then the oil filter has a black cap that you have to use a socket wrench to remove (we bought the socket at Lowe's) and use a 12" extension to get the filter cap off. The filter is a cartridge filter.
