  • squirrels are veggens.
  • What's up today with squirrels ? LOL ! No i thing they et only seeds.
  • They are strict vegetarians.
  • Maybe mutant squirrels.
  • I have not seen any reports on it. I also haven't seen my pet do that either. I usually see squirrels eat nuts, leaves, grass, and drink water.
  • If they are in severe starvation they will eat insects and dead animals. I have a squirrel that lives in my yard and i provide him with mushrooms, variety of nuts and sunflower seeds. He comes right on my deck, and has a nest in one of my trees. They are very interesting to watch, and don't bother you. Help out a squirrel, leave some nuts in your yard and observe him.
  • They preform satanic rituals where they sacrifice the virgin of the squirrel clan by consuming its flesh.
  • They ate some of the pretty little baby chickadees in the birdhouses.
  • Many squirrels eat insects, slugs, and snails. Some flying squirrels eat baby birds, in addition to the more typical nuts, fruits, and fungus.
  • No......but you never know what evolution has in store.
  • Yesterday, I saw a gray squirrel eating a large moth. That is how I found this thread, trying to figure out what they eat. I thought that they were vegetarians. I could see that if there wasn't much to eat they would expand their diet, but here in North Florida we have had a bumper crop of acorns this year.
  • Do squirrels drink water?
  • Squirrels are omnivores, not vegetarians. Sure they have preferred food groups, but they can diversify their diets in a pinch.
  • Squirrels normally will stick to seeds and vegetation when it is available. There has been cases of them attacking small animals when their food of choice is not around. a male squirrel will sometimes eat new born squirrels when they can. No one really understands this behavior but it has been known to happen. I have never heard of them eating dead animals before but I do know that they will rip the fur from a dead animal to help build their nest.
  • Absolutely, they will and do. I found this discussion when I was searching for info about squirrel behavior - (after my friend saw one squirrel remove another, dead squirrel from her yard). I think perhaps they eat their own dead to dispose of the remains, so the body won't attract other predators. Anyhow here is a link I found - beware there are some gruesome pictures not for the faint of heart! http://www.scarysquirrel.org/special/movies/carny/carny2/
  • the rogue squirrels here have eaten a school bus driver waiting to pickup some grade schoolers last week.
  • iv seen squirrls have killed small mice but i dont think they eat it
  • In 9/09 I was at the Myrtle Beach State Park campground. A small squirrel (very dark, almost black) tried to climb up my leg. I tried chasing it away with water from the hose. It would not go away and stayed under furniture. I finally chased it away. A few minutes later a larger gray squirrel came down the same tree and I thought I saw a 2nd smaller squirrel coming down too. The next thing I knew, the large gray squirrel was on the ground at the bottom of the tree and it WAS EATING THE SMALL SQUIRREL! I sprayed it with the hose and that gray squirrel picked up the little dead squirrel and carried it up the tree like a rag doll! I was close enough to see the little squirrel had a hole chewed in its body. This whole experience was very erie.
