  • Changing the headlights on a Sunfire/Cavalier takes a bit of finesse but it is possible for the 1st timer. First of all.. you need to remove the black plastic shield that runs across the hood at the front of the engine. You need to use a Flat head screwdriver and carefully pop up the center tabs of the hold down studs; these are a two piece item. Once the center tabs comes out, lift out the remaining studs. Then, you need to use a 15mm socket to loosen the 2 bolts holding down the headlamp assembly; 2 left side and 2 right side. Carefully slide each assmebly out of the way. You can now reach in and access the bulbs. Do this by turning the bulb assembly counterclockwise for both high beam and low beam. It would be a good idea to change all 4 bulbs at the same time, this way you won't have to repeat the procedure at a later date. Install the new bulbs in reverse, reattach headlamp assemblies, tighten bolts, then reinstall hold down studs for the apron/shield.
