Thanks. I shouldn't have said that I wanted to stop this art form. I don't. I would like for these often talented artists to use their art in socially acceptable formats. They can make money if they find the right outlet! Paint on someone's property isn't art to the owner who must now pay to remove it. It is a terrible thing to do to small business owners. And taxpayers!

I do like Pollack but I think what I like really is the 'balls' of the man to make art like this. And if it makes you have any emotion, even curiosity or puzzlement, I guess it's done it's job. But you don't need any culture to see something that nearly anybody COULD have painted... but where were their balls? LOL!! No, there is too much fawning over people just because someone or 'they' declare them great or new or trendy!

Good points! And, I do realize it was something totally 'new', a new form of expressionism and that it took the art world by storm. Personally, though, I much prefer the Impressionists and post-impressionists. Picasso over Pollock any day.

+ points Taylor. I wouldn't have thought of him, but you are right. I thought there might be a bit of art in his works until I watched a film of him actually creating. I didn't see any thought or muscle control in his actions. It was random drizzle and slop to cover the large area. His choice of color was interesting though!

I love the Impressionists, too. To me they captured light and emotion best. Picasso is fine when I can understand but sometimes his images are too disturbing for me to linger on. I turn away from distorted people. But as a quilter I do love Mondrian. I love the colors and empty spaces.

Funny enough I remember one quote abut Pollacks work. Someone once said something like "It's not art, it's a bad taste". There is movement there so maybe he is best remembered as an innovator that opened up art more than for individual pieces:-)

Hi Jewel! :) Some of his stuff was very colorful and not all was paint drizzle. I really LIKE his Blue (Moby Dick), 'she wolf', and 'the key', for example.

Galeanda, I agree. He was definitely important. I just remember when I was growing up we had a game called Masterpiece, and his 'Cathedral', I believe it was, was one of the featured paintings. Just as a bit of trivia, do you know that one of his drip paintings was bought by David Geffen for $140,000,000, making it the world's most expensive painting? At least that one has some color in it, instead of just black and grey, lol.

That reminds me of a funny little Garfield cartoon. Jon is wearing a big funny looking cowboy hat and admiring himself in the mirror. It's got a price tag hanging down so you know it's new. Garfield takes one look and says, "It's amazing what people would rather have than money" LOL!

It's been a weird and rough holiday time. I don't know what is going on. Things are marked duplicates and merged together and people are waiting for them to get un-merged. Other things are marked Nonsense and there have been the worst spamming, especially for porn sites. ARGH! And all sorts of new categories in OTB, too, generating many questions. I think sometimes I run away almost screaming lol! Luckily I haven't been around that much but I've still seen too much.

Tough time?, I was on a short time Christmas Evening . How is your M in L. Hope she is doing better. I hope you had a good Holiday time.
I cannot believe that one of the staff has not gone crazy with the Nonsense and Offensive stuff. Most of them are perfectly ordinary questions. Lord only knows we have enough fluff questions to recognise them when they come along. :)

Well I do know they are training a new Moderator and she is learning about the site. She's posted some questions and answers, so that might be it, too. And I think they were having some software problems.
MIL is not as great as I would like. It's been very hard going but she is in a new rehab place. But she's so out of it and you have to wake her up to eat each bite of food. And they won't let her eat real food, it's all thickened, even the milk and juice or pureed. No wonder she won't eat. We cry, we help, we just do our best. We hope to see our Margie of 'before Nov 20th' one day. Thanks for asking.

I get disturbed by some of his works just because people, faces, don't 'feel' right. It's like seeing a scrambled face right before your eyes after expecting to see your mother's face. Maybe you're right. Children shouldn't view them. I remember from very early age seeing them and they just made me feel queasy as a child and I still feel the same. I don't like people de-constructed! Even if you have a purpose or there is meaning behind it. lol!
