  • Millions of young people work part time while still in school. Their employers know they're in school and schedule them accordingly. Many employers seek high school students to work after-school shifts; they're not going to hire you, knowing you're in school, and then expect you to work shifts that conflict with school. They wouldn't bother hiring a high school student in the first place if they expected you to work during school hours.
  • Whatever you decide to do, keep this in the front of your mind: Your most important job right now is school. Don't mess it up. You can probably do a job and school without much problem, but if there should be some, do school first.
  • Work after school and during the summer if you must. The school counselors should be aware of your struggles if you have any---share this w/ am expert--they maybe able to help here.
  • Try looking for a host or hostess position on sat/sun or something on the weekends. during the school week it may interfer with study time/projects. good luck.
  • well it really depends on what you`re out for...,but in any case your school should be taken seriously(a priority)try as much as possible to find a compromising job which you can only do after school
  • Agree with all the others - School is the most important right now. If work starts getting in the way of good grades etc, you might have the rethink. The other advice (if I could do it again) would be think about what field you want to go into and try and get a job in that direction. If you want to be in the medical profession, maybe get a job at a doctor's office filing papers or making appts. Pharmacist - get a job at a pharmacy - even if it is at the retail front counter. Vet - work at a kennel....you get the point. Eventually - you can expose yourself to what you would like to do.....and hopefully see if that is really what you're interested in.
  • Well; first and foremost your EDUCATION is the most important .... IF you are maintaing a GOOD Grade Point Average; then getting a PART TIME Job is ok .... as long as the grades do not suffer .... I worked all thru high school at a supermarket and still maintained my 3.75 grade point average ... so it CAN be done . IF you grades did begin to suffer ; then you would need to quit the job .... You can try getting a job at a Movie rental Store such as Blockbuster, a Major restaurant Chain as a server or bus boy, at a grocery store as stock man or carry out etc .... Sometimes the school will have jobs listed by various local businesses .... Good Luck !
  • Maybe you can work on weekends? You'd only be working part time anyway (during the school year) so it really wouldn't take up too much of your time anyway, maybe up to 20 hours a week. I think its a great idea and you can manage to do both.
  • I can NOT begin to tell you how important an education is to you! School is YOUR job right now! If you quit school to get a job (probably min wages!), then that's the type of job you will be stuck with the rest of your life! You will be limited as to the number of hours you can work while you are going to school and will have to get a work permit from school (I'm assuming you are US) in order to work. There is NO reason why you can't have a part time job (grocery bagger/movie usher/Burger King/etc) while you go to school in the afternoons, weekends, and summer vacation. BUT keep those grades UP~!
  • Look for a part time job with a boss who's willing to be flexible about your work schedule. Getting a job is a great idea. All the schooling and good grades in the world won't help you in the "real world" if you have no work experience. If you plan to go to college, the workload will be heavier than what you have now. So now would be a great time in your life to find a part time job.
  • work part time!! i work in a super-market on saturdays and monday evenings and im doing my A levels
  • Look, most of us had part-time jobs by the time we were 16, and most of us had to go to school, too. It hasn't changed in years and I think it won't change anytime soon. If we could do it 25 years ago (and more) then you can do it too. Yeah, you guys have more distractions today but so what? School will end in two years. Make sure you budget your time and don't slack off. Shoot, I go to college now as an adult and there are people in my classes who have full tiem jobs AND go to school full time AND have kids. So, what's your esxcuse? I think the incentive of extra cash is enough.
  • I worked part time from age 16 - and managed to go to school/university etc. Supermarkets are good places to get part time work - just make sure your shifts are regular, and that you do not have to compromise school
  • you just have to manage your time and make sure things don't get out of balance and that you know what your priorities are...school, homework, job, social life...
