Question

Help answer this question below.

Someone I know has this peculiar problem: when she gets hot, her fingers, ears, and feet turn beet red, but when she is cold those same body parts turn blue. What is causing this? Is it a symptom of something more serious?

Redness is caused by blood in the system - when one blushes (as example) blood is being pumped to the surface of the skin.

When we are over heated the body pushes more blood to the surface of our skin so it can radiate heat out. When we are cold the body pushes the blood inward, sometimes from the toes and fingers to conserve the heat inside.

The main radiators of out body listed from the most radiative to the least are:

    Feet, Hands, ears, head.

You can get warm by putting on a pair of socks, you can cool off by dipping your feet in a pool of water. Your whole body feels hotter or cooler just by what you do to your feet.

Is it a symptom of something more serious. Maybe. However that is something they need to discuss face to face with a doctor who can (most likely) take one look at a person and tell them if this is normal for The person ins question or not..

Much of it will be due to skin type. Some people are too pale and any change in blood flow near the skin will result in drastic color changes. For others there are some health related issues which this can be a symptom of.

For some they just have their blood vessels running close to the skin to begin with, thus any change in blood flow (which takes place naturally to regulate heat) will be very noticeable, while for others they are too tan, or their blood vessels are deeper or thinner and you never notice the color change unless they are very hot or very cold.

Prime wants the old AB back

Sis1227 is right; this should be checked by a doctor. It could be circulation, blood pressure fluctuation, or a glandular problem (one of the glands, I think the adrenalin gland) controls body temperature. It could be something altogether different or nothing serious at all. I had these symptoms as a prelude, so to speak, to my debilitating movement disorder. So, the doctor is the best thing.

It seems to be something with circulation. It should be checked out by a doctor to be on the safe side.
