    Your opponent needs one ball to win, and it is sitting in the jaws of his pocket. You pocket that ball and either scratch in the same pocket or jump the cue ball off the table on the shot for a foul. That ball comes back up, preventing your opponent from winning immediately, and one of your balls spots as a penalty. Your opponent gets ball in hand behind the line, perhaps with nothing to shoot at but the two spotted balls.
