Gas fireplace. Is there any way to get more heat from a gas log set? Ours requires the flu to be open hence the heat goes up the chimney. We do not want a vent free unit. They do not look all that real and they smell. We have natural gas. Thanks

I have a vent free gas stove and just love it. I don't think it smells any more than the vented unit and it is 99.9% efficient! I run it when I am home and I am not cold anymore. I think anything bad you read about them comes from the gas industry because they don't like them because they are too efficient! I understand that they were used in other countries for years and the US tried to keep them out through the lobby of the fuel companies (again too efficient!).
