  • Yes. Domain names are registered for specific periods of time, the minimum being one year. When that period expires, you must re-register the domain name if you wish to keep it. To determine when you need to re-register, you'll need to review your original registration or consult with your registrar.
  • Well technically is not a re-registration, is actually a renewal. The period of time is a year. You do not need to redo the whole process but simply pay your right to use the domain for another year or more years. Usually you get discounts for the more years you pay in advance, and of course a side benefit is that you will not have to worry about renewing for a while. Anyway, all decent registrars will give you the option to automatically renew at the end of year period using the credit card on file. If for some reason the card has expired or has no credit available, they will send you an e-mail to your last known address. If you choose not to auto-renew, they will send you e-mail notices (usually 90, 60, 30, and 15 days in advance....but this may vary from one registrar to another).
