  • Man brought death into the world. Back in the garden of Eden there was the perfect environment. The earth was new then and it had a sphere of water around it protecting us just like the ozone layer. As man polluted the earth the natural protection of the earth broke down just as the ozone layer is. Eg. When you take a copy of a tape and make several copies you will notice that the quality of the sound will decrease. That is how it is with mankind. We are a copy of a copy of a copy..... If one lived 150+ years when God created man ,you would expect the same breakdown. Things don't get better over time they fall apart. That is why we don't live that long. **it has been proven by science so maybe look into it more and you'll see what i'm talking about**
  • It is highly improbable. Large amounts of water in the atmosphere would not give a huge increase in a humans lifespan. Cell diteriation is caused by more than just UV light. The idea that humans fade after being copied numerous times is easily dismissed, as the average lifespan of a person has increased steadily over time. It is more likely that offspring will be very slightly more advanced, given the nature of evolution. But such a change would not be noticeable in modern society. Technology and secure social standing are the main cause of an increased lifespan. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What evidence do you have of "degenerating anomalies". If you mean mutations in the DNA, then any mutation that isn't usefull or increases chance of survival, would die out of the evolutionary chain. I can show you proof of evolution at work; every single cell in our bodies contains DNA, a special molecule which literally makes us what we are. Our DNA is almost EXACTLY the same as gorilla DNA, and is even closer to DNA obtained from fossils of ancient ancestors of human beings. It is believed that 99% of all the species that have lived on earth, are now extinct. Extinction of a species is one way in which life evolves. Modern whales have hip bones in their flesh that they do not use because they do not walk. They probably evolved from mammals that did walk. Paleontologists have found a fossil whale called Pakicetus that has more developed rear legs. Without evolution, we could not understand why whales have hip bones. These are just a few examples. Yet I see know proof of your "degenerating anomalies". --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why would God give early humans longer lifespans, and then lower the lifespan in each generation? Proof that God does not effect the human lifespan can be seen by looking at the lifespan across the globe. A person living in Europe and central america, has an average lifespan of around 75 years. Where as a person living in South Africa has an average lifespan of under 50 years. Is it more probable that the lifespan is effected by natural circumstances, or that God punishes the poorer countrys with shorter lifespans? Also, if the human lifespan is decreasing; using the average global life expectancy of 66 years, and the life expectansy of 900 ,5000 years ago; using your current rate of "degenerating", the global life expectansy in the year 2395 will be less than 1 year. A healthy human with such a small life span is a biologically impossibility. The history of the human lifespan: Neanderthal, 20 (Note: Neanderthal is actually a different species from modern humans) Neolithic, 20 Classical Greece, 28 Classical Rome, 28 Medieval England, 33 End of 19th Century, 37 Early 20th Century, 50 Circa 1940, 65 Current (in the Western world), 77-81 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_expectancy#Life_expectancy_over_human_history A fact can change your faith, but your faith can not change a fact. • Do not believe everything you read.
  • Yes, early in Genesis persons commonly lived over 900 years. The drop in longevity comes with the Flood. Without any direct way to know the how of this, one may speculate that the climatic changes which accompanied the Flood, caused a decrease in the lifespan of man. Speculative etiololgy would include loss of the pre-flood canopy (waters above the firmament), change in earth's axis of rotation, drop in air pressure. After eliminating the effects of nutrition, modern medicine, war, anti-biotics, 911 system, baby/birth preservation due to modern technology; I don't believe that the basic "lifespan" (biological clock time) of man has been increasing over time. But if we just worked on averages, I would think that the "average" life of the human being (life starting at conception) has drastically dropped since 1970, due to the averaging in of all the babies being legally murdered in the good 'ol USA -- perhaps 70,000,000.
  • Noah and all those dudes were up in the hundreds. Ages of up to 900 years were listed in the old testamnet. But if you believe that, I've got a bridge in San Francisco that's for sale if anyone's interested.
  • They were closer to perfection. As time goes on we will have shorter life spans.
  • They only ate what they grew and raised....I'm telling you its all those preservatives were eating thats killing us
  • This is a valid question that deserves a valid answer, free of generalizations or sarcasm. Let's examine it. First, as we read the account of the Flood in Genesis 6-9, we see that it speaks of months and days of the month and that the year was very nearly 365 days, meaning that when it says 900 years, that's what it means. Working back from the present, we see a fair number of people living to over 100 even on occasion to 120. The oldest confirmed life in modern times was around 140. Very rare, but believable. Biblical Moses lived to be 120 and Abraham 175. Outside our experience but still believable, right? According to the Bible, his ancestors lived to be 200some, 300some and up to 969 years. Some other respondents to this thread have touched on the answer. The Bible indicates in Genesis 2 and 3 that man was created to live forever. Death came about due to rebellion (Genesis3:1-18; Romans 5:12). The copy of a copy of a copy statement is basically true and just needs a bit of expanding. Upon sinning, Adam damaged his ability to produce perfect, everlasting offspring. Still, in the first generations this damage was slight. Multiply 95% by itself many times and before long the number becomes pretty small. In other words, the effects of sin (sickness and death) would multiply over time until it would settle at some point. The traditional three score and ten or four score (70-80 year) lifespan of Psalm 90:10 still holds true. Most folks still die between 60 and 90. Scientists are just now beginning to understand the intricacies of DNA which the Creator knew from the beginning. There are other factors, but this is what we can cover in this short space.
