Minolta no longer manufactures cameras, so you are unable to buy any further new Minolta products, except what may exist in an individual store's old stock. The termination of the Minolta product line will also affect third-party manufacturers, which will stop developing new products for Minolta cameras. Minolta DSLR cameras may reappear under the Sony badge, since Konica-Minolta has sold these assets to Sony. It is, however, the end of the line for all other Minolta cameras. If you have a Minolta DSLR, you can purchase used Minolta lenses or new and used lenses from third-party manufacturers, such as Sigma, Tamron, or Tokina. Production of third-party lenses for Minolta SLRs and DSLRs is likely to wind down within a few years. Some fixed-lens cameras can accept accessory lenses that mount in front of the existing lens, attaching to the filter thread or bayonet. The availability of these products depends on the specific camera model, so without knowing the model no one can state whether or not an accessory lens is available for your camera. None are currently available from Minolta, except from old stock, and third-party manufacturers will not develop new products specifically for Minolta cameras. Some still manufacture compatible accessory lenses, but these product lines will wind down more quickly than the DSLR / SLR market.. Accessory lenses reduce the image quality somewhat, because they add several elements to the existing lens.
