What impact upon society would the Grateful Dead have influenced upon it if Jerry Garcia hadn't died yet? How would the current music scene have been different than it is today if at all?

A lot of the bands that became big after Jerry died probably wouldn't have gotten there as fast (like WP, Phish, DMB). The Dead left a huge gap. Heads needed somewhere to go, so Phish and WP as well as the others gained the fans.

Not one iota. They were a great band and interesting, but life changing, or world changing? They were influential, but a lot of bands have followed that traveling minstrel path. I loved Jerry Garcia but he had a horrible heroin addcition and was no saint.
