No -- since the rings and batteries are a physical manifestation of the mental energies of the Guardians, a Guardian could serve as a living battery and sustain a Lantern's charge simply by being in their presence (as Ganthet did in "Ganthet's Tale"). Also, CannedHam is mistaken -- GL's could also recharge their rings directly from the Main Battery; but since you actually had to be on the planet Oa to do so, it didn't happen very often.
