Your question indicates what is most common in our country, and that is folks are confused about how insurance works. Your insurance company knows the answer to your question, but they did not make the decision to cover or not cover. That decision was left up to your employer. You may feel uncomfortable asking your comp and benefits contact that question. If so, contact your insurer and find out. In most scenarios, complications would be covered, then the insurance company would subrogate the cost and recover the funds spent due to the complications (sort of like a mini lawsuit) from the physician or facility, with the assumption that they were responsible for the complications. But if you have concerns, maybe you should seek out another doctor, or decide if you really are healthy enough for surgery. It can be a deadly decision. Sometimes what is covered or not doesn't matter when you put your life in the hands of someone you thought you could trust. What goes on while you are "under" is quite often too shocking for print.
