Help answer this question below.
I understand your concerns. Well, I think I do.
For Americans, the rights of citizens are stated in the US constitution, as well as individual state constitutions. Your state has determined to what extent the second amendment applies. The state will usually err on the side that infringes upon constitutional rights the least. However, they can and do regulate the carrying, sale, and possession of firearms in a manner that they believe benefits the public good the greatest. So, many places have great restrictions on concealed carry, including required gun safety and marksmanship training. Others do not allow concealed carry at all. All of this hinges upon responsibility, of course. It's irresponsible as well as illegal to carry a concealed weapon without the proper authorization. Further, if you choose to carry a weapon, it's irresponsible not to ensure that you have the proper training to use a weapon. If someone has met the states standard for concealed carry, and passed the required classes, and been permitted by the state to carry, then they are qualified by the state. I don't really worry about the guns carried by law abiding citizens. I do worry about guns carried by criminals, who really aren't know for their responsibility.
Ultimately, the responsibility for personal or family protection rests upon the citizen. The police, while they do try, cannot be held accountable for a citizens welfare unless they're in police custody.
Which right do you specifically believe is being stepped on? Do you believe that it supersedes a persons right to defend themselves from harm using legal means?
If you feel strongly enough about it, then you should petition your local government. If you feel something could be harmful to you (i.e., unqualified gun use), I do believe that you're right to do something about it.
In what Manner??? They too have the right to Learn How & When to Use Deadly Force in Self Defense. How many "Bad Guys" would be willing to Attack a Senior Citizen who was "Visibly Armed"??? The "Bad Guys" are "COWARDS", PLAIN & SIMPLE!!! They are Animals & Animals "Cull" the "Weak" from the Heard. It sounds as if U have a "Spine Problem" which is OK, as long as U Know U couldn't "Get the Job Done, then I would be afraid to see U Armed! But, be Prepared for the "Consequences" as U "Turn Over" Control of Ur LIFE to a "Bad Guy". John

You're reading Aren't the rights of people that appose the carrying of guns in public places, being stepped on ,if they feel unsafe, and in danger of others not qualified in the use of guns? Are not the state laws one sided, in some states ,on this issue?
Comments
The right I feel is stepped on is the right to live in a society that does not carry guns.Owning one and leaving it at home is a different matter.Whatever way one looks at it someones rights are stepped on ,either pro gun or anti gun.All states should have lengthy courses on the handling of guns, and each state should be clear on the legality of shooting someone. They could spend many years in prison is shooting someone for the wrong reasons or accidentally out of fear. That is why I fear my safety from even law biding citizen. To drive a car, working machinery, and other things require training before licencing and guns for sure should be as well.

I agree with you on everything but the first statement. Actually, I might agree with you on that, too. I'd like to live in a society were I would never have to defend my family or myself. And, if everyone were law abiding, responsible citizens then we'd all be happy and safe. Unfortunately, I do feel that I have to be prepared to defend my family.
I also agree that more training is probably necessary for concealed carry. Marksmanship isn't stressed enough. Discretion and lawful self defense can never be stressed enough. The classes should probably be another 20 hours longer at least.
If you fear for your safety from law abiding citizens (which is perfectly reasonable) then you may want to consider living in an area with a lower concealed carry rate or greater training. Or, you could take the class yourself to see how thorough the training is.

I would never gun myself so do not need classes.I do live in an area that has extremely strict gun laws were people are not allowed to carry a gun, and feel safe.It is an interesting topic and I realize I am in the extreme minority thus am always on the bottom of the list on these sort of questions on AB,and sometimes feel like public enemy number 1 for it.It is good to converse with someone ,like yourself, that is willing to discuss it without animosity. We may have different ways of looking at it and that is what I like about our right to think what we want. Thanks again for your suggestions.
