A group of armadillos is a nameless...bunch, according to several sources on the web. My expectation was "army" or even "armada", although armadillos onboard battleships makes for a goofy picture. What next?.. Flotillas of armadillos, LOL? Not likely. Covered in natural hard-shelled "armor", armadillos do not "float".

A check of several "group names" websites, as well as a few dedicated to these appealing little creatures, yielded nothing.

I did learn some interesting stuff, but found no info on this unsettling lack-of-a-group-ID matter. Some armadillos can jump a couple of feet, or around 61cm, straight up, for example, and a nine-banded armadillo can cross a stream by walking along the bottom, holding its breath, for up to six minutes. Look for the DVD, folks. Being the only armadillos that swim, they might take pride in the above nautical associations. You could find out by checking with your local armadillo cl - uh, I mean, the armadillo her ...oh. No club, no herd, no pack? Don't they hang out together? Maybe not. Ask on Answerbag and save yourself the trouble.

Here's a link to a chart of animal names, collective, and otherwise. It's one of the few that includes those without a group moniker. Note the wide open space by "armadillo".

LynfromNM, you must be right. One website described armadillos as "timid" and "nocturnal, " so "loner" makes sense.

oregon: This is nothing, really, but I appreciate the recognition (big grin).

Evolusean: plomk? That'd be original, if nothing else. Maybe hard to pronounce.

Relsqui Perfect!. Battalions of armadillos and their armor . Ground forces, not naval. Of course. Hey - great question, BTW. Really fun.
