Question

Help answer this question below.

I have an F250 powerstroke diesel crew cab. I am having trouble with lack of power on the hills. Pushing on pedal does not cause the truck to accelerate. I changed the fuel filter. Any suggestions on what might be wrong.

I know exactly whats wrong with your truck, if it is a pre 2000 it is most likely the map sensor, map sensor hose or tube plugged or the exaust back pressure tube. The map sensor will not trip an engine light but will dramatically cause lack of power under load or boost, when its under boost and not reading how much it won't ad the extra needed fuel pulse in the injectors..either that or plugged prefilter screen or line to fuel rail in head-check valley for signs of transfer pump leakage also.

Interesting, These vehicles can be prone to some minor problems relating to the injection however for a reasonable outlay you can computer chip up the engine this will increase power dramatically and fuel efficientcy if you require. The nature of the beast is that power initially is poor because of , fuel type, vehicle weight and gear ratios like heavy vehicles they may need a run up first . Torque here is important and you will have a problem if you have a lack of torque as well. Best of luck.

Fuel pressure, sound if you not getting enough. Or fuel RPM ratio is mismatched. Last but not least water in the fuel...is it sputtering?

SOUNDS LIKE THE SAME PROBLEM I HAD ON MY 7.3. I HAD TO PULL THE TANK AND THE PICKUP TUBE HAD FELL APART AND CLOGGED THE FUEL LINES.

You may need to contact Ford on this one, there was an engineering flaw in the 7.3L powerstroke in the Excursions that needed injectors replaced due to lack of sufficient fuel getting to the 8th cylinder. I believe they did a recall on this issue and the research on it may be well worth your while. I found this info on this website, it isn't much but might start you on fixing the issue:

    Good luck.
