  • Apparently something you put in the tank had the snail attached.
  • It doesn't. That would be the defunct theory of spontaneous generation. There must have been some sort of delivery, or maybe there was already an egg (too small to see).
  • Someone probably put the snail there.
  • A snail egg or a very small plant came in on a plant. An egg could have been floating in the water with a fish you brought in from the pet shop, especially if there were any snails in the tank you got it from. An egg could also have been attached to some piece of equipment or decoration you transferred from another tank. If you brought in any thing from an outdoor tank or pond it more than likely had eggs or snails on it. Another source is life food. Some snail eggs can remain viable for quite a while even out of water.
  • hmmm.....sounds like evil magic, or the home shopping channel was involved somehow -- the two are often confused
  • It happened to myself. Not only snails, but weird looking crustaceans. The (tiny tiny tiny) eggs are on plants that you stick in the water. They hatch, boom, presto, little critters that you didn't know were in there!
