Help answer this question below.
It does depend on the formulation. I was recently fishing where the DNR was spraying to control weed growth and in talking to the applicator the only word of warning is the bait fish leave the imediate spraying area and where the bait fish go so do the bigger fish and gators to a degree. The pond depending on size will have a residual impact and may alter the dynamics of it but ultimately unchecked weed growth can kill far more creatures.
most chemical spraying is harmful in some way, but you would imagine that marine authorities would have been consulted before any spraying started. Lets hope so anyway
It's possible, it depends on what the chemical is. But I think you just "out-cooled" another company I did a job for that had Bison roaming around in a field behind the building.
You know...I would be concerned about that as you are. Why don't you ask what is being sprayed out there. They may be doing something they are not suppose to be doing.
I know, my mother used to work in a bank and behind her they had two little gators in a pond there and you know how famous golf courses are for maintaining the grounds in such pristine condition. I feel that the gators and other critters will pull through just fine but also I cannot deny the fact that since chemicals have been used, it is never a good thing and there is a chance that they might cause some loss of health to the animals effected.
I would say that it depends upon the brand of spray that they use in order to have a more determinate answer.
Our Solar Aerators, the sun, and some waste water is all you need to grow tilapia (cherry snapper).
Thats right! One of the things that makes tilapia an easy fish to raise is they will eat just about anything. Tilapia are known by many as a fish who eats poo, which makes some people hesitant to eat tilapia. It is true, tilapia do eat poo if that is what they have to eat, but they will eat a large variety of things. The idea of tilapia being poo eaters was made popular by an episode of Dirty Jobs on the Discovery Channel where tilapia were used to clean up poo made by striped bass.
Tilapia can be vegetarians and are quite happy eating algae. They also like duckweed and are sometimes used to control duckweed, which is fast growing and is a good source of protein for the fish. Tilapia and duckweed can be a good combination since the duckweed extracts fish wastes from the water and uses it as fertilizer. In return the duckweed provides food for the fish.
Now that's sustainable algae control!
How do you change the water? i change the filter on a weekly basis and the water temp is in the acceptable range of mid 70's. what do i add to keep the algae down? it was a gift to my daughter from her grandfather and i didnt want it for this exact reason

My fish tank goes green quicker than it used to. We got the two pretty good sized goldfish in the fall and the water didn't get really green until 2 1/2 weeks. Now we have to change the water every week if we want to see the fish. Whats happening?

You're reading The pond behind my work has 5 alligators in it. Lately a company has been going out there & spraying a chemical to kill the plant life & algae in the water. Is this harmful to the gators & other wildlife that live by the pond?
