No way! This just happened where I live.
These “medical associations” having been covering for their own long enough. The medical profession is one that does not allow room for error.
What of the unfortunate patients who unknowingly are treated by our friendly doctor while he/she is in rehab?
Doctors whine enough about the cost of malpractice insurance.
What effect would these type situations have on the cost of their insurance.

Let the medical practitioners get their treatment, get it under control, and then return to their field once the board/controlling authority will certify them again.

I would not want any doctor taking care of me if he/she has drug or alcohol problems. If they are going through treatment, there is always the risk of them relapsing.

They should not be allowed to continue practicing and possibly contribute to the accidental death of a patient. The consumer(patient) needs protection from these things since the doctor can not carry on their profession safely. Why should a doctor's financial well being be put above a patient's well being! I guess that is why there is so many malpractice suits.

I think that if it does not affect their line of work they should be able to continue treating patients. But if it is affecting them at the work place then they should definetly not be able to continue treating their patients.

If a surgeon was about to take a brain tumor out of my head, and he looked a little "shaky," I wouldn't mind if he had a cocktail or two to steady his nerves.
