  • they are aledgedly more secure than magnetic srtips, but can still be copied with the right equipment. basically theres not any security benefits thats just a gimmick. theyre slightly more resistant to magnetism theyre more likely to be damaged by water banks just started using them a a gimmick to make people think their accounts are more secure as customers were losing faith. the only real security leap is stopping people using signatures and they could have done that on the old magnetic cards but "Chip & PIN" sounds better than "Magnetic strip and PIN" and people have just started using CCTV to get around that anyway.
