One reason why mustang enthusiasts dislike the Mustang II is because it is not only smaller than the other mustang models, but it was also heavier and SLOWER! I know alot of people who love their mustangs because of the top notch speed and performance. The Mustang II, sometimes called "the lost pony", is probably the most often criticized of being unworthy of the mustang name. Some background: The Mustang also grew progressively larger until 1974 when the downsized Mustang II was introduced. With a 4-cylinder engine and Ford Pinto underpinnings, the 1974 Mustang II was controversial, but in the wake of the fuel crisis it was the right car at the right time and 400,000 were sold in 1974 alone. sources: http://www.ford-forums.com/Mustang/ mustang wiki
