Each case is different, so you must read the terms that come with the software. What consumers often don't realize is that when you buy a box containing software, you're not really buying your own personal copy to do with as you please. You're actually buying a license to use an instance of the software exactly as the company sees fit. Worse, these terms are often subject to change - without notice. I've seen a case where someone bought some software, installed it on their computer, registered the software online, changed their mind, uninstalled, sold the software to someone else, and it didn't work, because the online registration locked the license to the original computer......
