Well, beside its dark sides communism had a lot of positives as well. There were no homeless people, no beggars, everybody had a job, everybody was provided healthcare....free education, almost no crime. When mothers went grocery shopping they would park their baby carts outside of the store- with babies in them. Who would even think of it now? It was that safe back then.
After the Berlin Wall fell, communism in whole Europe fell as well.
Countries started switching to capitalism which brought a lot of difficulties, inflation, suddenly people had to get different types of insurences, lost their jobs, some lost their homes. New president Vaclav Havel gave amnesty not only to political prisoners but also pedophiles, rapists and murderers who then ran into surrounding countries since borders were open and started to commit various crimes.
For especially older people this was a difficult time and to be honest, it still is. You can hear them praise the "old times" because the bad was forgotten and they only remember the easier aspects in communistic life.
On the other hand- free travel, right to express your opinion, right for political direction of your choice, right to be religious and right to know the truth were the main values which made the transition easier and welcome.

Czechoslovakia, like all countries labelled "communist", was not communist at all, but actually a dictatorship that use communism as a tool to keep power.

Czechoslovakia was split up in 1993 (without any stupid war like in Yugoslavia). The Czech Republic became a more rich country than Slovakia.
