    The lighter the string gauge, the softer the sound. This is true is acoustic instruments as well

    lighter guitar strings are less for rock espescially if you are using drop c or even d tuning sometimes they sound like rubber bands, if you plan to do alot of drop c tuning get a heavey gauge
