My daughter throws up when she coughs also. It's a sensitive gag reflex. Don't worry too much, however my daughter is now almost ten and any cold she gets she throws up when she coughs. The voice is probably a side effect of coughing and throwing up. Try a cough supressant. I don't remember the age a child has to be to have honey but honey works as a natural cough supressant. Good luck.

Sorry I tried to write a sidenote for the previous answer but I clicked submit to soon. What I was going to say was, please don't feed your baby any honey, even though it does have many benefits, until after a year old. The concern is with Infant Botulism and it is very serious and can result in death. Avoiding raw honey is the simple solution. You can read more about this at http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/baby/babyfeeding/9195.html along with other foods to avoid. About your child, I would suggest taking him to another doctor for a second opinion. I would be concerned about why he coughs so much and so tremendously. It seems bothersome. Good luck.

My daughter coughs to the point of vomiting and has been diagnoised with chronic asthma. An inhaler didn't help on its own we had to add a long lasting inhaled steroid also, the cough has improved dramatically. One thing that can also cause this sort of cough is acid reflux, heartburn, indigestion. You should see an asthma specialist if this persists for more than three monthes they can rule out any of the above diagnois.
