I don't use a microwave, but friends of mine had one that would turn on by itself when nobody was in the kitchen. You would just hear it 'microwaving' all of a sudden! That would cause ME to replace a microwave!

Why would I replace it if it's working? If my microwave is working, I will keep it until it dies.

I had to replace one recently because it started to rust out and fall apart.

After you discover something died inside it??? Or maybe after the microwave plate cracks???

When it starts taking longer than usual to heat something. I just recently replaced an old 500W oven with a 1000W one because it was taking ever more time to do simple things like pop popcorn. (I suspect the magnetron tube was dying.)
