  • They need a lot of sunlight! It's almost impossible to give them too much light. They need great drainage. They hate wet feet! Put gravel on the top 1 inch of dirt to keep water from splashing up around the cactus. Use clay pots because you want the plant to get dry between waterings. SO don't overwater. Let them go dry between waterings. AND each winter, let them go dry about 2-3 months. Yes, that's right, don't water for the whole winter. Then start watering in the spring as the days get warmer. It will force them to flower for you:-)
  • There are so many different kinds of cactus, it boggles the mind. I went to a cactus nursery once and it was fascinating. Type the name of your cactus into the search engine and see what is the recommended kind of care. Not very many of us here are experts in cacti.
  • Everything depends on whether it's a desert cactus or a forest cactus. The desert types grow in hiot, dry conditions and the forest types grow in the shady canopies of trees. So the former will be at home in a hot, sunny window, but the latter will need part shade.
