  • if such a thing happened, it would have to be soo undercover that no one would know about it. If ppl knew, then the man may not get to go. certainly the woman would not get to go, because of the stigma attached to women, sex and abortion in certain churches.
  • Being party to an abortion is a very serious sin to us. Someone who has performed, has, and/or paid for an abortion can be subject to excommunication. As such, someone who did do something like this would be subject to this and would require a serious period or repentance before they would be readmitted to full membership in the Church. It is possible that such a person could, after this period of repentance still serve a mission if he were still young enough. However, how long the repentance process will take is between the man, his ecclesiastical authorities, and God. (The Church does recognize some cases where abortions are justified, but these are rare and the scenario you describe does not fall into one of those situations.)
  • The Church Handbook of Instructions, in the section entitled "Members Who Are Not Eligible for Full-Time Missions", states, in part: "members in the situations described below are not normally recommended to serve full-time missions. However, if the bishop and stake president discern unusual circumstances that they feel warrant an exception, the stake president sends a recommendation to the Missionary Department for the consideration of the First Presidency: 1. Brethren ages 19 through 25 and sisters ages 21 through 39 who have been divorced. 2. Sisters who have submitted to an abortion, or brethren or sisters who have performed, encouraged, paid for, or arranged for an abortion. This policy does not apply to persons who were involved in an abortion before they were baptized or for one of the reasons outlined on page 157 3. Brethren who have fathered or sisters who have given birth to a child out of wedlock, regardless of whether they have any current legal or financial responsibility for the child." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missionary_%28LDS_Church%29#Other_exclusionary_factors So it is likely that a young man in this situation would have to get approval from the First Presidency in order to serve a mission.
  • If you ask me I should tell you that every woman that gets pregnant has her own fault, unless violeted in her sleep. Should she have an abortion? It is a initiative that goes against nature. But the mission depends on what it it contains. Every case of a mission is different and it is impossible to say that the mission can still be taken. If in doubt and with child you should not take the mission. I personally think that the child would be more important than the mission. A pregnant woman should stay with her current boyfriend and have what is alloted to her through child.
