I'm trying to decide between the Dell Inspiron 1420 and the HP Pavilion dv2500t. Both laptops have similar features--intel core 2 duo, 2GB of memory, 160GB hard drive, and Vista. Which one is better??

I searched around to see what specs those laptops has and I think you should go with the Dell Inspiron 1420 because it has its own Graphics Card (nVidia GeForce 8400M GS, 128 MB GDDR3) compared to the on-board video that HP has.

Really, Vista ruins both machines. Given that dreaded factor, though... I would choose the Dell. I've had lots of problems with HP equipment since they broke the company up into little pieces.

I don't know anyone who has an HP, but I just got a Dell Inspirion 1720 for Christmas and I love it. I haven't had any problems with Vista, besides a couple minor networking issues that I think had more to do with me not really knowing how to set it up! lol My parents just got a Dell recently, too, it's probably the 1420 or similar and they love it. My husband has a 14" Dell from work and he's very happy with it.

Thanks, everyone. I went with the Dell Inspiron 1420. HP just seemed to have slightly more negative reviews than the Dell. But everyone has their camp, I suppose. We'll see how it works!
