  • All things being equal, a smaller car is less safe than a larger car. However, all things are never equal. The kind of accident illustrated in Koldkanuck's answer is quite uncommon. Nor is there a good way to measure how many accidents a small nimble car avoids that a larger less agile car/truck will not avoid. Overall, the Smart car is probably about as safe as other smallish cars (Civic, Corolla, Versa, Cavalier, etc.) . . .
  • I think is the way one drives the smart car that makes them safe or unsafe.People have been driving these small cars for many decades,especially in Europe and Asia.
