while i don't have any advice on how to slow down i want to caution you that it seems you may be standing at the edge of a slippery slope. Admitting your powerless over alcohol is always hard but if in fact you are the sooner you admit it to yourself and stop drinking completely the less damage you'll do to your life and the lives of those around you. Good luck!

  • I would suggest that you examine the reasons you "drink a lot." Is it to get drunk? Are you physically addicted to drinking? Have you ever been able to stop for a length of time?

If the answer to these questions are yes, yes, and no, respectively, I'd say you don't have a great chance at success.

Speak with your doctor about Antibuse or other alcohol-related medications that might help you. But first, please examine why you "love to drink," and what effects this has on the rest of your life and relationships.

    Best of luck!

I also love to drink and have done so almost every day for about ten years. I also have come to a the exact same dilemma, as have many of my mates. What works for me is I have started playing sport and a musical instrument again - after years of dedicating all my free time to drinking. You could try other drugs such as weed, e's, or ghb, just to mix it up..

go to the doctor and ask him to examine your liver, perhaps show you x-rays or something, this should suffice.

As an eastern euro I can assure you that drinking is part of my life. I love it and never desire to discontinue. There have been times in my life where I've had to discontinue due do legal drinking age and have faired fine. If you really want to cut back, just do it. Action speaks louder than words, and if you can't cut back you're likely afflicted by addiction.

I like substituting coffee or tea, maybe eating crackers, cheese, kielbasa, pickles, olives, etc. Food and pleasure can help limit your drinking. Quite honestly you need to either find something better or at least distracting enough to discourage a drink or so. Hobbies and general responsibilities will get in the way of your drinking and force you to drink less. Try new things and change up your routine.

Perhaps even investing a daily drink towards your retirement, and savings would be a fun opportunity; since you were going to waste it anyways you might as well try a risky market and treat it like a good gamble. Maybe even use it to save for an all inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic etc. Save for better drinking venues.

Enjoy drinking! Slow to the degree that's best for you. If you're done and still have a drink left, just wrap it with plastic wrap and save it for tomorrow!

p.s. even if you can take alcohol well, it doesn't mean you're free from it's affect's. My grandfather died of sclerosis of the liver , he was an alcoholic, but almost never drunk, consider your consumption with care. Even 3-5 drinks a day can lead you to looking like a spewing mess from an exorcism for 5-10 years 20-30+ years down the road. It may be a while away, but you'll feel the pain all the same when it hits and understand true regret.

    Live life without regret! ^_^

Congrats for cutting back! I Hope I was able to give some good advise/alternatives/tips!
