  • 50 years old.
  • I have loads of antiques and the rule of thumb is 100 years old. Turn of the Century items can sell but dealers will try and rip you off.
  • TO BE CONSIDERED AN ANTIQUE, FURNITURE (AND MOST OTHER ITEMS) MUST BE AT LEAST 100 YEARS OLD. THAT RULE WAS SET UP IN THE 1930'S BY THE US CUSTOMS OFFICE AND STILL STANDS TODAY. THERE ARE A FEW EXCEPTIONS (AUTOMOBILES, FOR ONE) TO THIS, BUT THE RULE OF THUMB IS 100 YEARS OLD TO BE AN ANTIQUE. TOO MANY PPL EITHER ARE IGNORANT OF THIS FACT - OR THEY JUST IGNORE THE RULE. IN MY OPINION, IT REALLY SHOULD BE ILLEGAL TO SAY THAT SOMETHING IS AN ANTIQUE WHEN IT ISN'T.
  • I believe the legal definition of an antique is 100+ years old.
  • An antique is an item which is at least 50 to 100 years old and is collected or desirable due to rarity, condition, utility, or some other unique feature. Motor vehicles, tools and other items subject to vigorous use in contrast, may be considered antiques in the U.S. if older than 25 years, and some electronic gadgets of more recent vintage may be considered antiques.
  • A genuine antique needs to be 100 years old. A collectible needs to be between 50 and 100 years old.
