Question

Warning, this is gross: When you are starting to get a cold, and get that clear, watery, runny nose - is there a way to stop it without stuffing cotton in your nostrils? I'm at a trade show, and can't be dripping in front of customers.

    Take sudafed + an antihistamine

Sudafed (get the kind the criminals want it's active ingredient is more effective) works great to calm the irritated nasal tissue that is secreting the runny stuff.

Antihistamine- will reduce the histamines that the body releases which trigger the snot.

Drink lots of fluids. It keeps you hydrated and, talk about gross, it keeps the nose draining down the throat instead of on your customers.

    Yarnlady is happy every day

See this excellent article on runny nose remedy:
"When you consider that the average nose produces up to three quarts of mucus each day to keep your upper respiratory tract lubricated, you have to expect a few extra drips now and then. (And if you have allergies, that three-quart average may turn into six.) Sometimes a stray ounce or two trickles down the back of your throat in the form of postnasal drip. Other times, that mucus contributes to a classic case of runny nose"

Efrin or some sort of nose spray like that. It will help dry you up for a few hours. Just don't over use it.

Does that over the counter stuff really work? I can't stop sneezing, and look like a 5 year old kid.

I'm having luck with Vicks nasal spray. Please note that with any nasal spray, you should not use it more than four days in a row. Take some time off, then try again. Nasal sprays have this odd way of being addictive.

I think some of the OTC nasal sprays can help with your problem. Just be careful they can be physically addicting.

  • A lot of vitamin C will help for awhile. It has natural antihistamines in it. A good vitamin with lots of B too. But if you want to avoid the whole issue in the first place, when you are starting to feel a cold coming on, get the Boiron homeopathic solution for colds. I can't spell it right off hand but any health store will know it. In most cases it will stop the cold before it can manifest. Yes, it works on everyone.
