Yes, you can bargain with your internet provider. As an example, here at home, we use sbcglobal, which had a 12 month contract at a very reasonable price for DSL. Two months prior to the expiration of our contract I received a notice in the mail of the expiration date and a quote of the new rate. The notice also said I could do nothing in response and lo and behold, it wouldn't be a problem for them at all. They would just start charging the new rate. What a convenience! HA! I called Comcast, got a rate from them for internet and phone service, at a rate that was $20 cheaper a month than our reasonable contract amount and it wouldn't expire unless we changed providers. I then called sbcglobal and told them I was going to switch, not only our internet, but our phone service as well due to the lower price. Amazingly enough, they were able to give me the same rate (actually - $2.00 cheaper).

So, take 30 minutes out of your day and make a few calls for some quotes. You may be pleasantly surprised at the rate you can get.
