Where do I find the starter motor in a 1990 Toyota Corolla?

    Attached to the flywheel. If you don't know what this is, then don't attempt to change it if that's what you are planning to do.

    Take it into a shop.

    It will look like a fat cylinder, about 6 inches long. (I'm trying to not sound dirty) It will have some wires running to it and a gear on the front of it. They are made of metal, but it will probably be caked in dirt so it may take a bit of work to get to it.

    Your starter is very well hidden.
    It is located just in front of your firewall, on top of the engine block, underneath the intake manifold.
    It is very difficult to even see part of it, but look with a flashlight just to the right and below the intake manifold.

    It is VERY difficult to change from the top of the engine compartment, bad design.

    The starters on these models appear to be a weak link, I am now on my 3rd one...hope this helps.
