Question

Help answer this question below.

Say you won a huge lottery, like 1 million. Would you tell everyone you know, do the TV ads and take pics with the press holding up a huge check? Or, would you keep it on the down low, not do ads, not do the press, and keep it on the 'need to know' basis?

I would try and keep it quiet for as long as possible but if you have to go to the lottery place and pick up the cheque yourself, there will probably be newspaper and tv reporters there and it would leak out eventually who you were.

It would be split with relatives, so they would all know. I would also tell my close friends, they're all a lot more priviledged than me anyway so they wouldn't start expecting hand outs left right and centre or become more concerned with the money than me.

I would keep it to myself and then help my friends that need it.

    A million dollars? Tell everyone.

$100 million, do the press and then run away.

It's not up to you. When you pick up the money you sign for it. Part of that agreement is that they can use your picture and name in the media.

Most lotteries will REQUIRE that you do the press-work. If not, you forfeit.

I'd keep it quiet until I went to the office to get my check. Then I would only tell family amd a few close friends. (Charities will know, anyway, and so will scam artists - you will probably be inundated with requests from them, and people you don't even know.)

I would keep it very quiet, so that all the hangers on would not turn up with their hands out. Then I would be getting financial advice on the best way to use the money.

Until I had the money in my hands (or, even better, in the bank or other easily accessed, yet secure form), I'd keep it quiet. After that, yeah, I'd hold a press conference, but that's all.

I am not the bouncy type, and I can be annoying when I want, I don't think they would want me for the ads. And after I had gotten them to realize that they didn't want me for the ads, no one would ever see me again. Poof gone.
