Same home remedy as we ladies: yogurt, with active live cultures

Also, he may try taking acidophilus supplements internally (in the mouth).

the only tried-and-true method of treating a penile yeast infection is to blast those yeasties with prescription drugs that are ingested systemically and probably have side-effects. furthermore, procuring such drugs will almost always involve a trip to the doctor. take heart, though, that your man almost certainly won't be subjected to stirrups and speculums. there are two drugs commonly used to treat penile yeast infections:

    Diflucan (fluconazole):

broad spectrum: will kill other species of Candida and some other fungi.

allergies to it are not uncommon.
    Nizoral (ketaconazole):

really broad spectrum, powerfully evil stuff: kills everything.

trashes your liver, and reduces the adrenals' ability to make steroids, like testosterone.

    do it yourself
a while ago, i received an email from a gentleman who, on the advice of a doctor, had tried using an over-the-counter vaginal cream (Monistat) to treat his penile yeast infection. i guess he just rubbed the stuff on the outside of his penis. anyway, he said that it didn't work at all until he added a few drops of white vinegar to it to a small blob of cream, and then it worked overnight.

he also warned against applying straight vinegar, which eats right through the skin. 'nuff said.

since posting that suggestion, i've received quite a few emails from people whose doctors have recommended applying Monistat directly to the surface of the penis to cure yeast infections. most say it works fine. so hey, i guess you can go ahead and try it, and if it doesn't start to work in a day or two, try adding a little vinegar. what do you have to lose? (okay, maybe it could fall off.)

    Treatment
Treatment for vaginal yeast infections are:
Vaginal creams or suppositories that get rid of the Candida overgrowth. These can be over-the-counter ones. Examples are Monistat, Gyne-Lotrimin, etc. or ones prescribed by your doctor such as Terazol or Vagistat, etc. They should be inserted right before you go to bed.
Oral medicines which include Diflucan (a pill taken once per episode of infection), Sporanox, Nystatin and Nizoral.
Gentian violet, a purple-colored solution applied to the vaginal area.
It is important, though, to make sure that you have the right problem diagnosed. A burning sensation could be a symptom of a urinary tract infection caused by bacteria which requires an antibiotic. Antibiotics will not help a yeast infection. They make them worse.
    Trichomoniasis mimics yeast infections.

You should check with your doctor if:

This is the first time you have symptoms of a yeast infection.
You are not sure that your problem is a yeast infection.
If the infection you treat comes back within two months.
If the infection does not respond to treatment.
Chronic vaginal infections can be one of the first signs of diabetes, sexually transmitted diseases or HIV/AIDS in women.

use one of those OTC remedies you find in the pharmacy under "women's hygiene." These can be expensive, so if you don't want to spend the money, you can also get a tampon and put some plain yogurt on it (the yogurt has to have 'live, active cultures' in it) and insert it. The bacteria in the yogurt should destroy the yeast cultures. Stay away from sugar, white bread, anything with yeast in it and alcohol during this time, as bacteria feed on sugar.

You can treat most vaginal yeast infections with an over-the-counter vaginal cream or suppository. You can buy these nonprescription vaginal creams and suppositories at most large drugstores.

Many yeast infection treatment doses come in one-day, three-day, and seven-day strengths. Many of the over-the-counter vaginal creams and other products you can buy often contain the same ingredients to fight a yeast infection as the medication your doctor might prescribe -- but in less concentrated doses.
