  • If you're talking about completely wiping your system and starting fresh with a new install of Windows XP Home then yes. However if you're talking about just installing the separate component programs such as Fax then I could only say maybe in some cases since Windows XP Professional has certain programs which are not available on the Home edition. However other programs which are on it may well install properly. I don't believe there is a way to completely overwrite professional with home without losing all settings and data on the drive or ending up with a very unstable system. My advice - get a copy of an XP Professional disc. Incidentally, assuming your copy of windows is legal and has a product key, remember that a professional product key will not work with home and vice versa.

  • Two different things Home and Pro extra components. Fax service and a few others are not available in home edition so to install the fax service you need a pro disk even a pirate one but only as long as you have a legit windows pro cd-key on the side of the pc (it'll say windows xp professional) then you should in the case of installing a pirate version use jellybean or similar to change the cd-key to your own.
  • Have you tried to put in your home disc, did it let you install the components for your fax, sometimes this actually works. If not, you could contact microsoft by phone as long as your serial number is genuine and they will send you a free sp2 disk. I have done this in the past i know it works. It might be though now they will have to send you a sp3 disk not sure on this.
