If it is a simple watch, most major brands are quite reliable. Movado makes a pretty good lower end watch. I have a few, my sister has four. They aren't as rugged as a mid-range watch.
If you are going to buy one with numerous functions, I would probably go to a mid-range watch. Many of the cheaper chronometers frequently have trouble. I have never had any trouble with my Tag Heuers, Raymond Weil, or Fortis.
High-end, Rolex and Breitling have also been trouble free for me. The Breitling Aerospace has Analog, and digital displays including GMT.
I think you can look at various brands and compare attributes. Lots of bells and whistles can mean more problems. The more it does, doesn't necessarily mean it can do any of them particularly well. Check out this site for info:

Are you mentally driven by the clock? How does it affect your mood? I can basically tell what time it is and then look at the time...weird!
