The 65 with the 6 cylinder isnt exactly a collectors car, since they made something like a hundred thousand of them. So in my opinion go wild with it. If you decide to sell it later you'll probably get more out of it with a well built V8.

A 1965 Mustang is not collectable because it has a six cylinder ? You could not be more wrong ! Depending on if is is the 170 ci or the 200ci ( 1964 1/2 ) could mean a big difference. The straight six was a rock solid engine that can be rebuilt and beefed up with som simple adjustments. Original is always worth more but it depends on how you intend to drive this car. Do you want to race around ? Then pu in a V8 and go wild ! Do you want a daily driver ? Then change the 3 speed to a 5 speed. If you want to do a complete restoration then keep it all original. I prefer original. If you want a V8, then fix your car , sell it and buy the one you would like.
