The aircraft that performed this flight was not built by a big corporation but was instead made by a smaller company in California. The funding for this company to build the aircraft was privately funded, although I do not know much information on the specific donor information. Several other companies also participated by providing parts, such as the engines. The aircraft was called SpaceShipOne.
To my knowledge, this is the only privately funded supersonic aircraft. There could be others in the woodwork, but I have not heard of them and they have not received the publicity that SpaceShipOne has.
