No, as long as they are not the same color.
Also try to stay away from busy patterns on top of busy patterns...thats tacky!

Depends how it's done, if you have a large area like a livingroom and put a amall area rug, say, in front of the fireplace, that's perfectly ok. Be careful, it is easier to look tacky than not.

Is there a good design reason why you want to do it? Like the comment about area rug in front of the fireplace. That would 'showcase' the fireplace and bring a nice interest or focus to the area. I agree, be wary of tacky.

It's OK as long as there's no 'clash' of patterns and the colors of both go well together.

The best place to put one is where you spilled that pizza the other day! lol
No really, sometimes an area rug helps to anchor a space,or separate it, especially in a large room

If the basic carpet is a plain colour and the rug is a good contrasting colour it can be done

No, but it can be dangerous, if they "creep." They are very often tripped on, so that is one thing to watch for.

  • Not in the least! The TRICK is getting them to stay where you place them. They tend to want to "walk".

Not if you are trying to accent something in the rooms design.

I personally think so. I think it's a lot better if you are putting an area rug over hardwood floor but I honestly think putting it on carpet just looks like a cover up for dingy carpeting that may be underneath. Just my humble opinion
